Meghalaya, Nagaland polls: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged voters of Meghalaya and Nagaland to return out and vote in document numbers at present. He laid explicit concentrate on younger individuals and first-time voters. The Prime Minister tweeted, “Urging the individuals of Meghalaya and Nagaland, significantly the younger and first-time voters, to vote in document numbers at present.”
Polls for Meghalaya and Nagaland are at the moment underway and the counting of votes will happen on March 2. In Nagaland, over 13 lakh voters will select from 183 candidates in 59 out of 60 seats. The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Get together (NDPP) is contesting in coalition with the Bharatiya Janata Get together (BJP). whereas the NDPP is contesting 40 seats, the BJP is contesting 20 seats.
The Congress and the Naga Folks’s Entrance, then again, are competing for 23 and 22 seats respectively. In Nagaland, all eyes are on 4 girls candidates out of 183 candidates within the 60-seat Nagaland Meeting elections. These girls candidates are NDPP’s Hekhani Jakhalu (Dimapur-III), Congress’ Rosy Thompson (Tening), NDPP’s Salhoutuonou (Western Angami), and BJP’s Kahuli Sema (Atoizu).
If any one among these girls candidates will get elected, they would be the first lady to be elected as legislator from the northeastern state. In the meantime, 369 candidates are within the fray in Meghalaya because the ruling Nationwide Folks’s Get together (NPP) faces powerful competitors from the BJP, Congress, and the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Safety personnel have been deployed throughout polling stations in each states.
Whereas the ruling NPP has fielded its candidates in 56 constituencies, the BJP and the Congress are contesting 59 seats. TMC has fielded its candidates in 57 seats. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma will lock horns towards militant-turned-politician Bernard Marak from the South Tura constituency. Chief of Opposition and TMC chief Mukul Sangma will contest from Songsak and Tikrikilla. Mukul Sangma’s spouse DD Shira can also be contesting.
